LIVING AND WALKING IN RECOVERY

TAGS TRAUMA RECOVERY EXPLICIT IMPLICIT CONTAINMENT

You could be excused if you had the notion that COVID 19 is well and truly in the bin, because it is not first hand news anymore, and this is to some degree right, as we do not need to be stuck with it , and have it governing all our lives, day by day. It is , however important to note that more traumatic events, such as the war in Ukraine have taken the front page, and how could it not? The complexity of the situation, and the total chaos leaving not enough room to report the horrors of the time and day. How can one speak of recovery, and ‘have the neck’, to suggest we need to live within that frame well lets look at the answers and possibilities?

When dealing with stress it is important to examine our explicit, and implicit narrative. If you like knowing your own story as you relate it ‘explicit’, and understanding the implications or ‘implicit’ story, how you live it out day by day and moment by moment. So if we take a step back to the previous blog remember we are dealing with inciduous ongoing traumatic stress.

Our role is to hold on to our knowledge of ourselves and the stress experiences we have had, and name them as belonging, if that is the case, to the current situations, then to use reflective and meditative practice to contain those experiences , as we have previously discussed.

Containing our experiences and holding ourselves, is not easy ,and there will be times when you either throw in the towel, or would like to, but at times like this think about what gives your life meaning and purpose and what has kept you walking straight for your life , up until this crisis, focus on this, and do not allow negativity to get the upper hand. Your world view can become changed through stressful traumatic situations but you can be part of the world’s transformation by reviewing and holding on to your perspective on life’s meaning ,and how it can be lived out in a positive and meaningful way.

Loss of meaning and purpose is defeatist, that is not to say, that we cannot fall into this trap if we have other unresolved, denied, or unknown traumatic experiences in our lives, if this is the case seek medical help. If, however you can work with your stress as indicated in this and previous blogs you can begin to walk in continual recovery, and to know and understand your boundaries for your personal care and safety.

DON’T LOSE YOUR BALANCE AND FOCUS MORE NEXT TIME.
